Bridges

What is a bridge?

A fixed removable denture, also known as a bridge, is used to replace one or several missing teeth.  A bridge is supported by either natural teeth or implants or a combination of both, and literally bridge the gap created my missing teeth.  Nowadays, bridges are available in several different materials including gold, alloy, and porcelain.

Dental bridges offer all kinds of benefits including restoring your smile and confidence, giving you the ability to speak and eat properly, and maintaining the shape of your jaw.  More importantly, bridges also help re-distribute the forces of your bite while preventing your other teeth from drifting out of position.

Are there different kinds of bridges?

When choosing whether you’d like to get a dental bridge, know that there are three main types to consider: traditional bridges, cantilever bridges or resin-bonded bridges.

Traditional bridges are the most common type of solution, which requires creating crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap, and placing the pontic in between.

Cantilever bridges are used when only there’s a tooth on only one side of the missing teeth.

Resin-bonded bridges are created by fusing porcelain to metal teeth supported by a metal framework.  To keep it secure, metal wings are bonded to your existing teeth.

Replacing your missing teeth will make your dental hygiene better,  speaking clearer, and eating much more comfortable.   It’s important to keep your mouth and teeth healthy and strong, as your teeth will create the foundation for your bridge.  Prevent tooth decay and gum disease by maintaining your regular brushing and flossing schedule, which we’d be happy to talk to you about.  Call us and get your bridge scheduled today- restore your smile and confidence.
