My family lives in Draper, and my husband used most of his vacation time due to a funeral this February. So we were not able to make a big vacation this summer for 4th of July. We usually go to the Northwest coast, either California or Oregon. We decided to make the best of our vacation time so we checked out local areas. We looked at South Jordan, SLC, Sandy, and Provo. South Jordan was the closest and the most family-friendly. So we booked a family suite at the Springhill Suites by Marriott. and made an activity list. We saw the shopping mall The district, we saw the Oquirrh and South Jordan temples, we looked at some local parks and Rec centers, as well as pools nearby. Most interesting to the kids were pools and parks. My older son said he needed shoes for school and wanted to go to The District mall then the SJ Rec Center. We came to an agreement to do as much as we could in the 5 days we had. We left our humble home in Draper to this magnificent palace of a hotel in South Jordan on Monday. We decided the first day we would settle into our room then go swimming all day. We went to the Lifetime fitness indoor pool because it was too hot to be outside. We jumped off the diving boards, played games, swam around and had a blast! Then we went back to the hotel and room service was a little spendy so we went out to eat. We found a new place called Wallaby’s Smokehouse and ordered some steak, burgers, and my youngest son, of course, is the one who orders grilled cheese and french fries. After we stuffed ourselves and still had plenty in to-do boxes we headed back to the Hotel. We had free hotel wifi and rented Bedtime Stories, a family favorite with Adam Sandler, Courteney Cox, and Carrie Russell. We played games afterward, we played Uno, go fish, B.S, Skip-bo, and Blackjack (without the gambling). We finally went to bed about eleven and woke up around nine. We went to the free continental breakfast downstairs to fuel the fun. We decided to go to The District to go School shopping. My boys got shoes, jackets, and backpacks. We only spent about $300 which was not bad considering three boys. The next couple of days were more laid back, we lounged at the pool, went driving at Top Golf, and Visited the South Jordan temple and the Oquirrh mountain temple. On Thursday we decided to go to Oquirrh Lake to Swim, Paddle Board, and Kayak. It was very sunny and warm and just a pleasant day. After we went to the pool and played all night until it closed then we watched a new one Ready player One which was featuring at the Larry H. Miller Megaplex at the District. On Friday we packed our bags and said goodbye to our staycation hotel and left back to Draper. South Jordan is a very fun place with many things to do. I hope this article helped you find your next outing, date night, movie night, or like mine a staycation trip with the family.
