South Jordan Summerfest

Once a year in South Jordan, Utah the city puts on a big summer celebration. It varies each year on what the main event will be, but it normally brings a big crowd. The festivities are held at the South Jordan City Park right off 11400 South and close to Redwood Road. The park itself is a lot of fun because it is so large. They have a lot of different facilities on it that range from a playground to baseball and softball fields. There is also the South Jordan City Pavilion, South Jordan Public Works Building, South Jordan Fitness & Aquatics Center, and the Equestrian Center. So there is a lot to do and see. A lot of the times the open fields are used for lacrosse or rugby practice, so in the spring, summer, and fall you can always find some event to go watch on just about any day of the week. So as you can imagine, there is a lot of space at City Park. Because of this, they can have a lot of things at Summerfest. They will normally have a rock climbing wall, small petting zoo, blow up balls you can get inside and walk on water, vendors of all kinds set up booths with local goods, food carts galore, and the carnival side.

There is a lot that you can do at the Summerfest so it lasts a whole week and you can go every day if you wanted. I don’t think I have ever been to it and completed everything I wanted to do in a single day. I always need to go multiple times, but that is fine because it is a free event. You need to pay if you want to do anything besides listen to music and comedians like the rock climbing wall, but it isn’t that expensive. My favorite summer fest I went to was when they had a country band come and play that was getting pretty big in the industry. It was so fun because they were really talented and you could either go to the front and stand like a regular concert or tons of families had blankets set up in the back. You can bring your own food, but my favorite is getting something from one of the food carts. They have a large variety of food carts so everyone can get something they like. Just a word of advice though, don’t go on any of the roller coaster rides or the spinning machines right after. I saw a kid get on the spinning machine right after he ate his dinner and it did not end up very pretty.

If I still haven’t convinced you to go to to the South Jordan Summerfest yet, just know that it is a big highlight of the Salt Lake Valley. Surrounding cities like Riverton, Draper, and Sandy all have their own versions of Summerfest, but South Jordan really knows how to put on a show. They always end the week off with a huge firework show that lasts for a really long time. It is extra fun to go to this firework show because the fields and land are so huge that you can spread out from everyone else and still have a wonderful view of the show. If you are in South Jordan this summer, definitely give Summerfest a chance.
